What is Apple Park?

Apple Park is Apple’s HQ, it was first talked about by Steve Jobs at the Cupertino city council meeting on June 7, 2011. Jobs said Apple was running out of space, the solution was a new building that was shaped like a circle, with a park in the courtyard of the building. Unfortunately, Steve Jobs passed away in October 2011.

Construction & Design

Construction of Apple Park was started in 2013, It was finished in 2017. The Building is almost entirely made of glass, the cafeteria has huge sliding doors that are opened on nice days, and it is even 100% powered by solar panels. However, when the building opened there were reports of people walking into the glass when they were not paying attention, they even had to go to the hospital in more serious cases. The building cost around $80,000,000. Workers at apple park in the underground parking garage.

Fun Fact: Inside of a building there is a Siri controlled elevator.

Other Buildings

On the inside of the ring, there are more buildings, these buildings are: Steve Jobs Theater, Glendenning Barn, and an outdoor stage, and northwest of Apple Park is a visitor center (The only public place on the land. Glendenning barn was going to be removed from the land, but because it was a historic building it could not be removed. The Steve Jobs Theater is where new Apple products are introduced.

Visitor Center

The visitor center is the only public place, it is outside of the building ring. It is an Apple Store, with custom merch, and an iPad for a 3D virtual experience of the building.

Criticism

It used expensive real estate that could have been used for affordable housing. The headquarters also gained negative attention when it was reported in 2018 that two workers had been injured and had to go to the hospital after walking into the building's glass walls and doors. Apple's oversized office park was a maze to navigate (just like Ikea), and the Santa Clara fire department got involved.
