iOS & iPadOS 17: Just Everything

Updated: June 30, 2024

The upcoming release of iOS & iPadOS 17 is just a few months away, expected to be released in June 2023. In today's article, I will cover absolutely everything about iOS 17 (there is not much info considering we are relatively far away from the launch).

Release Date

Beta Release Date: Every year shortly after WWDC ends, the iOS beta of the version that was introduced at the event is released to paying app developers. I have predicted that this will happen on Monday, June 5, 2023. I got this date by following a pattern, WWDC is usually on the first Monday of June and June 5 is the first Monday of June 2023.

Public Beta: The public beta really has no pattern to follow, but it will release likely in July 2023.

RC Release: The RC release is usually released on the day of the September event. If we go by the pattern of the Apple event being 2 days after labor day (like last year), it should be on September 6, 2023.

Public Release: I have estimated that the public release should be sometime in the week of September 11, 2023.

Latest Leak

On January 25, 2023 a tweet shared by @LeaksApplePro revealed many new features.

These Include:

However, 9to5Mac has revealed that this account is known to troll and make stuff up, just like last year with iOS 16's "big widgets" leak.

Apple Website Typo

On December 31, 2022, a typo was pointed out on Twitter by @SamiFathi_ on Apple's website. The typo said this: "The Fitness app automatically appears on your iPhone after you first pair an Apple Watch, or when your iPhone is updated to iOS 17." I believe this is a typo (yes, even Apple makes typos) because they would never accidentally release info about an upcoming software release and because the Fitness app was added to all iOS 16 devices

Features

Carplay

In June, Apple unveiled the future of Carplay. The new interface had many new features and enhancements. Apple claimed the next generation would be available "later next year'. It may launch in iOS 17.

iPadOS Lock Screen Customization

In iOS 16, Apple added lock screen customization. But it was not added to iPadOS 16. That is why I think it may come to iPadOS 17. This is similar to how Apple added home screen widgets to iOS 14, but not to iPadOS 14. But the next year, it was added to iPadOS 15.

Side Loading Apps & Alternative App Stores

The EU is forcing Apple to add USB C and app side loading. Apple has been predicted to add the ability to use alternative app stores and side load apps from non-Apple app stores.

Lack Of New Features

A recent Apple leak has claimed that iOS/iPadOS 17 will not have that many new features. This is because many resources are going towards developing the xrOS operating system for the upcoming Apple AR headset.

macOS Support

In October, Twitter user @MajinBuOfficial posted this:

He claims that Apple was working on making a version of macOS that could run exclusively on the M2 iPad Pro.

Conclusion

That is all I have for today. I hope this article was able to inform you. If you have any questions, feel free to leave a comment in the comment section below. Thanks for reading, and bye.
